Eighteen players contested today’s Competition and Ha and Geoff both scored 13 in their two games. Neither of the players had a handicap to be accounted for and, after a count back, Ha took the prize money having only 5 points scored against her in both games, where Geoff had 12 points against him.
A good day, and the weather was kind to us.
The next Saturday Competition will be held on Saturday 21 August, commencing at 3.00 pm with registrations by 2.55pm.
Twenty one teams registered for Prospect Petanque Club’s Memorial Cup – a day on which players from Prospect and the wider Petanque world are remembered for their input into the game. Teams were arranged in doubles and played three games before lunch, followed by finals (in three divisions) in the afternoon.
Prospect was well represented in the finals, with both contending teams in the Principale Finals representing Prospect. This final was a hard battle for the players, with Marty and Richard leading a good way into the game to be overtaken by Gavin and Van who were the winners with a score of 13 – 10.
Prizes were also awarded for the Consolant and Convivial divisions.
We had a great turnout for the June Saturday Competition, with 18 competitors. David and Van both scored 13 in their games and were the joint winners, sharing the prize money and both gaining a one point handicap for the remainder of this calendar year. Ha also scored well with a total score of 24.
Our next Saturday competition will be held on 17 July.
Prospect Petanque Club hosted Round 5 of the State Triples Competition on Sunday 30 May in beautiful weather. There were 27 teams from six Clubs and they played to 11 points for the first three games before lunch and then to 13 points after lunch. The final games were hard fought and had to be played under lights, with Adelaide Hills Petanque Club taking out the honours for both first and third place, with FAB (Ferral Aussie Boulistes) Petanque Club second.
The table after this round has Eastern Suburbs in first place with 216 points, followed by Club De Petanque D’Adelaide (167 points) and Adelaide Hills Petanque have moved from fourth place to third after their successful day at Prospect.
Round 6, the final round for this current League competition, will be held at Gawler Petanque Club on 27 June.
Wyatt, a very happy two year old, and his family and friends, had a wonderful time when they used Prospect Petanque Clubrooms to celebrate his 2nd birthday recently. It had a Construction theme as Wyatt loves trucks and his guests were able to “demolish” a building (made of cardboard boxes decorated as a brick wall) with the basketball that was hanging from the pergola roof. Lots of time was also spent bulldozing the sand with the many dump trucks and dozers. If the children tired of the construction activities, they went next door to the playground.
The pergola area
Digging in the sand
Snapping the cake cutting
Everything had a Construction theme
The guests wore colourful hi vis vests and hard hats and the decorations all followed the construction theme.
Prospect Petanque members assisted with the bar service and heating of the afternoon tea.
We had a good turnout in beautiful autumn weather for the May Saturday Competition, with 16 members competing and two players scoring a perfect score in both games. Both Robyn and Van won both of their games to score 26 points, with Robyn taking home the booty after the count back as she had 2 points scored against her while Van had 10 points against him over the two games. It was the first time that both Van and Robyn had been a part of the Saturday Competition.
Alison and Heike were close behind with 25 points each, though Alison’s handicapped score was 24 points.
Thanks must go to David for getting things going and to Sue for her score and time keeping.
Our next Saturday Competition will be held on 19 June at 3.00 pm, with registrations by 2.55 pm.
Fourteen members contested the third Saturday Competition in perfect weather this afternoon. We had two players, Allan and Robert, win both of their games to score 26 points and they both had 8 points scored against them. It was decided that they would share the prizemoney and both now have a one point handicap to be deducted from their score in future Saturday competitions. There are now four players with a 1 shot handicap – Alison, Marilyn, Allan and Robert.
Our next Saturday competition will be held on Saturday 15 May, commencing at 3.00 pm with registrations by 2.55 pm. The pistes remain open for anyone who does not want to compete and would like a game.
The celebrations of Prospect Petanque Club’s 25th Birthday continued on Sunday 18 April with a Doubles competition. Seventeen teams competed in great weather and a friendly atmosphere. Three timed games were played before lunch to decide the competitors for the Principale, Consolante, Complementaire and Conviviale untimed games after lunch.
A feast fitting the occasion was prepared by Wendy Dewis and players enjoyed Arancini balls with a topping of pesto or truffle, followed by Roast Pork and 8 trimmings!! As if that wasn’t enough, delicious lemon tartlets followed for dessert. Many thanks to Wendy, ably assisted by her partner Alan, for this feast.
The day incorporated the traditional “Founder’s Cup” and Mike Mulvihill was remembered for his hard work in getting the Club established on what were the grounds of the Prospect Park Women’s Bowling Club. Mike was an avid wine collector and his widow, Valmai Nicoll (pictured at right), presented four bottles from his collection for presentation to the Winners and Runners Up of the Principale competition.
Congratulations to all competitors and especially to those who played in the Grand Finals:
Principale: Van Nguyen and Gavin Scott defeated Janet Jenkin and Michael Frodyma 13-2
Consolante: Ralph Foster and Jenny Key defeated David Jones and Marilyn Trebilcock 13-6
Complementaire: Dominique Pierre and Steve Hambour defeated Penny Lyons and Anthony Pietsch 13-4
Conviviale: Alan Matthews and Marty Verdonk defeated Roland Piek and Illiano Puccini 13-4
Winners of Conviviale: Alan Matthews and Marty Verdonk
Prospect Petanque Club celebrated their 25th Birthday today with a High Tea held in wonderful weather out in our wonderful surroundings. About 40 members, past and present, attended to see the Mayor of Prospect, David O’Loughlin, cut the cake and President, Allan Sanderson give a summary of the beginnings of the Club and the progress made over the years. A highlight of the Afternoon Tea were the petite biscuits that Wendy Dewey created with the Club logo imprinted on them.
Six lucky attendees won a commemorative bottle of red wine.
The celebrations will continue tomorrow, Sunday 18 April, with a Doubles competition with approximately 30 teams registered to compete.
Prospect Petanque welcomed members of the SA Chapter of French-Australian Chamber of Commerce (FACCI) yesterday, 8 April, 2021 when they joined us for a late afternoon of games, refreshment and socialising.
There was good competition between the players and good form was shown by our visitors and members.
Thank you to the members of FACCI who attended and to the many Club members who assisted with the preparation and running of this visit. We look forward to welcoming FACCI again.
