SUMMER MELEE WINNERS

Robert Parkinson took out the big prize for the Summers Melee, with Ross Williams second and Jan Parkinson third. Well done everyone.

Now for the Autumn Melee, which kicked off last evening in perfect weather. Thanks to Wendy and Allan who served up crumbed or grilled whiting, with a wrap and coleslaw, followed by homemade pancakes with a delicious choice of toppings and cream.

PROSPECT AT THE NATIONAL PETANQUE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2021

Prospect Petanque had representation in the singles, doubles and triples competitions at the National Petanque Championships 2021, held over the Easter weekend at Novar Gardens Club. Our most successful day was the final day when the Doubles finals were held and we had three teams that all made the finals series after the preliminary rounds. They were Melissa Scott and Janet Jenkin in the open Women’s Doubles,  Gavin Scott and Van Tie Nguyen in the Open Doubles, and Brett Williams and Allan Sanderson in the 60+ Open Doubles.

Our men’s teams had success in the Quarterfinals and progressed to the Semi-Finals. Our Women’s team went straight into the semi-final due to numbers in the women’s draw. Unfortunately, that’s where our progress stopped, and all teams lost their semi-final. Our men’s team received an equal third place medal, a creditable performance losing narrowly to the eventual winners.

Earlier in the Championships, Allan Sanderson played in the 60+ open Singles, and the open 60+ Triples with players from other clubs. In both of these events, Allan reached the Final series and was knocked out in the Quarter Finals.

Another notable Prospect performance was by David Jones. David nominated slightly late in the application process, and while he should have played in the 60+ Singles on the first day, his late nomination was accepted but he had to play in the Open Singles, the toughest draw of all. He didn’t win a game but scored creditably and gained some great experience by playing against some of the best players in Australia. Well done David.

Also, Umpire and player Brett Williams put in a sterling effort in the Umpire’s uniform over the 4 days of the tournament, plus he was a sound partner to Allan Sanderson in the Doubles. Well done Brett.

PROSPECT PETANQUE TRIUMPHS IN THE FOURTH ROUND OF THE INTERCLUB COMPETITION

Melissa and Gavin Scott and Van Tai Nguyen took out yesterday’s fourth round of the Interclub Competition, to score the maximum 30 points for Prospect Petanque. We also gained 18 points for 5th position by Heike and John Whitehorn with Allan Sanderson.

This result moves Prospect up to third position on the premiership table. We had five teams competing and all played well. The scoring system only allows our first two places to be counted on the day. Anna Phillips, Kym Wilson and Richard Huntley just missed out when they won 3 of their 5 games.

Let’s do it again Prospect.

Gavan Melissa and Van

MARILYN IS THE SECOND WINNER OF OUR SATURDAY COMPETITION

We had 16 competitors in the second Saturday Competition today, 20 March in beautiful weather. Marilyn won both of her games, 13-6 and with her combined score of 26 was awarded the prize money. She was the only player to achieve this score so there was no need for a count back to decide our winner. A close second, with 25, were Denise S, Ann, Marty and Jan. We now have two players, Marilyn and Alison, with a 1 handicap to be deducted from their overall score next time around.

A VERY SUCCESSFUL DAY FOR PROSPECT PETANQUE AT CHATEAU DORRIEN

Prospect had a very successful day at Chateau Dorrien last Sunday, 14 March, with winners in all sections of the competition. Melissa and Van were Runners Up in the Principale section after a tight match and were beaten at the post 11/13. The Consulant final was an all Prospect match, with Marty and David taking first prize from Michael and Janet. Also, Gavin and John were Runners Up in the Convivial.

It was a big day, with 26 teams competing, and our thanks go to Gawler Club for conducting the event and Chateau Dorrien for their hospitality and generosity. Our prize winners came home with some very good wines and lots of medals!

PFA Rules 2021 – one of the changes

A recent change that has been made to the game rules relates to the position of the landed jack and it is outlined in Article 7 of the International Rules:

3) That the jack must be a minimum of 50 cm from any obstacle and from the end line of the lane, it must also be a minimum of 1.5 metres from another circle or jack in use. (note: no minimum distance is required from the “side” line that separates the lanes or the dead ball lines at the side of the lanes).

Alison is the winner of our Inaugural Saturday Competition

Allison

Congratulations to Alison for winning the first of our Saturday Competitions, with Richard very close behind her. Alison won both her games, to score 26, as did Richard, but Alison only had 11 points scored against her while Richard had 14. A great afternoon’s competition, enjoyed by 16 Club members.

Look out for the next competition on Saturday 20 March, and be sure to register by 2.55 pm.
