NOVEMBER SATURDAY COMPETITION – YET ANOTHER WINNER!

Ann took out today’s Saturday Competition with a score of 26, to become our 13th winner since the competition commenced in February this year. David also scored 26 points but has a handicap of 1 that had to be deducted from his score. Following Ann and David were Allan S with 22 points and Marilyn and Richard V with 21 points. There were 22 players, so Ann took home a healthy prize pool of $44.

Our final 2021 Saturday Competition will be held on 18 December, at 3.00 pm and the winner of the “Saturday Cup” (donated by Laurie some years ago) will be decided then. The player with the most points, disregarding handicaps, from all competitions they have entered will have their name on the Cup – of course, it will help to have attended all of the monthly competitions!! At the moment, there is only one point separating two players for this honour. All will be decided on 18 December.

Stan and Glenis set up some coaching tasks for us following the Competition and this week we were endeavouring to get closer to the cochonnet than an opposition’s boule without going past the dead ball line. The cochonnet was only about 20 cm from the line, so not an easy shot. Once this task was mastered, we moved on to shoot at two boules in a circle, from various lengths, to see if we could take both boules out of the circle. Both great exercises which we would not attempt if it were not for the coaching session. Thank you, Stan and Glenis, for some fun and taxing exercises.

ANOTHER WINNER IN THE SATURDAY COMPETITION

Ian took out the October Saturday Competition, from 18 other players. Ian and Melissa both scored 13 points in both games, however, Melissa had a handicap of 1 point giving the bootie to Ian. Next on the scoreboard were Denise, Janet, and Van with 23 points and David and Jacques with 22. A good competition in perfect weather.

The day was topped off with some coaching from Gavin when the emphasis was shooting with boules clearing various heights and getting spin on the boule. Stan and Glenis will continue their coaching on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month, from 2.30 pm to 3.15 pm on the first Saturday and 2.30 pm to 3.00 pm on the third Saturday.

The November Saturday Competition will be held on 20 November.

MELISSA AND RICHARD TAKE OUT THE SEPTEMBER SATURDAY COMPETITION

Twenty players contested today’s Saturday Competition, with five players – Ha, Van, Melissa, Allan and Richard V – scoring the perfect 26 over the two games. Three of these players had a one point handicap, after having won an earlier competition, which left Melissa and Richard V to share the prize money. A great competition in wonderful weather. Thank you to all participants.

It was announced today that the Laurie Anderson Cup would be awarded at the end of the year to the player with the highest score over all competitions, disregarding handicaps. Laurie very kindly donated a beautiful trophy some years ago and it was awarded to three players and then lapsed. Currently there are seven players with cumulative scores in excess of 100 points and we have three months of the competition yet to be completed. So mark the third Saturday of the month into your diary and keep competing to add to your cumulative score.

Joint Winners – Richard V and Melissa

SUPER SIXERS COMPETITION 2021 – teams soldiered on through wind, rain and (a little) hail

Eight teams of six players competed in the annual Super Sixers Competition on Sunday 12 September. The weather was moderate at the beginning of the competition, lulling us into disbelieving what had been forecast for the day. The teams represented five Clubs and the competition was doubles and triples, men’s, women’s and mixed with Captains nominating the players for each game. It took a bit to keep up with who was playing with whom, against whom and where but the day was thoroughly enjoyed by all competitors. The only downer was the bad weather that had to be endured during play – it seemed to calm down while we were under cover for lunch!!

The Principale division was won by Prospect’s BT Warriers (Melissa, Gavin, Van, Janet, Marty and Michael) with 5 wins, from Runners Up Novar Gardens’ Purple Power (Jonathan, Selina, Judy, Giselle, Gary and Ryan) with 4 wins. Adelaide Hills – Hills Hoisters – (Anthony, Lleanne, Deb, Ross, Dirk and Greg) took out the Consulante division with 4 wins and the Runners Up were Eastern Suburbs – Boule Devant (Ray, Tory Sandy, Shiela, Shirley and Lionel) with 1 win.

A great day of something different, with a yummy lunch and nibbles. Many thanks to those involved in setting up and pulling down, and food preparation and serving and to our competition organiser, Allan Sanderson, for the many hours spent in preparing the game sheets and keeping track of the results.

PROSPECT CUP – 15 August 2021 – with a brand new Cup

We had wonderful weather for the Prospect Cup, with 17 teams competing. Preliminary games were held before lunch and teams were then divided into four Divisions – Principale, Consolante, Convivial and Friendly – for knock out games after lunch.

Melissa and Van took out the Prospect Cup from Deb and Ray. The Consolante Division was won by Jan and Allan with Giselle and Ryan runners up, while the Convivial Division was won by Anna and Nathan from Heike and John. The Friendly Division final was fought out by Janet and Michael and Lynda and Alain, with Janet and Michael taking home the wine.

Well done to everyone for a great competition.

Melissa and Van – Winners of Prospect Cup 2021

PRESTIGE CUP 18 July 2021 – Sponsored by Prestige Trophy, Badge & Engraving

Twenty four teams contested the annual Prestige Cup on Sunday 18 July, with the trophies for the Principale division sponsored by our very loyal sponsor, Prestige Trophy, Badge & Engraving on Main North Road, Nailsworth. It was a doubles competition which made for busy pistes.

The Club was also very generous with prizes, rewarding winners and runners up in six divisions – Principale, Consolante, Convivial, Friendly 1, Friendly 2, and Friendly 3.

Principale Winners – Van and Gavin

Thanks go to all concerned with the planning and running of the day and to Prestige for the medals and beautifully engraved wine glasses which were awarded to Van and Gavin, winners of the Principale division.

SATURDAY COMPETITION – 17 July 2021

Eighteen players contested today’s Competition and Ha and Geoff both scored 13 in their two games. Neither of the players had a handicap to be accounted for and, after a count back, Ha took the prize money having only 5 points scored against her in both games, where Geoff had 12 points against him.

A good day, and the weather was kind to us.

The next Saturday Competition will be held on Saturday 21 August, commencing at 3.00 pm with registrations by 2.55pm.

MEMORIAL CUP – Sunday 20 June 2021

Twenty one teams registered for Prospect Petanque Club’s Memorial Cup – a day on which players from Prospect and the wider Petanque world are remembered for their input into the game. Teams were arranged in doubles and played three games before lunch, followed by finals (in three divisions) in the afternoon.

Principale Winners – Gavin and Van, with President Allan

Prospect was well represented in the finals, with both contending teams in the Principale Finals representing Prospect. This final was a hard battle for the players, with Marty and Richard leading a good way into the game to be overtaken by Gavin and Van who were the winners with a score of 13 – 10.

Prizes were also awarded for the Consolant and Convivial divisions.

……..and the weather was kind to us.

MAY SATURDAY COMPETITION WINNER

We had a good turnout in beautiful autumn weather for the May Saturday Competition, with 16 members competing and two players scoring a perfect score in both games. Both Robyn and Van won both of their games to score 26 points, with Robyn taking home the booty after the count back as she had 2 points scored against her while Van had 10 points against him over the two games. It was the first time that both Van and Robyn had been a part of the Saturday Competition.

Alison and Heike were close behind with 25 points each, though Alison’s handicapped score was 24 points.

Thanks must go to David for getting things going and to Sue for her score and time keeping.

Our next Saturday Competition will be held on 19 June at 3.00 pm, with registrations by 2.55 pm.
