IN THE WET AT CLUB DE PETANQUE D’ADELAIDE

Well done to Club de Petanque D’Adelaide for persevering with their 2+1 Competition today in very challenging weather conditions. There was a determined attitude from 36 players as they donned their wet weather gear for three 40 minute games before lunch, and then finals after lunch. Games went to 11 to shorten the time players were in the wet.

The Principale semi-finalists were Gavin, Van and Ha (Prospect) v Peter,HaeJung and Rada (ESP/Adelaide) and Dom, Alain and Joan (Adelaide) v Judy, Giselle and Jean-Luc (Novar Gardens) and the Consolante competition comprised Fran, Dee and Shannon (Adelaide), Lee, Denise and Jan (Prospect), Pete, Sue and Rob and Allan, Sandy and Lynda (Adelaide).

The Novar Gardens team of Judy, Giselle and Jean-Luc took out the Principale prize from Prospect’s Ha, Van and Gavin in a hard fought game which was 7v7 at one point to go to 12 v 11, with Prospect ahead. Then came Jean-Luc’s boule to take out the game 13 v 11 for the Novar Gardens team.

In the Consolante division Lee, Denise and Jan of Prospect took home the wine when they defeated Allan, Sandy and Lynda of Adelaide 13 v 11.

A challenging day weather-wise, but enjoyable nonetheless. Thank you, Club de Petaque D’Adelaide for wonderful hosting yet again.

COMMITTEE CUP at CLUB DE PETANQUE D’ADELAIDE – 16 January

Prospect had three teams in Adelaide’s Committee Cup, with Gavin and Melissa qualifying for the Principal competition after lunch. They played their semi-final against Garry and Selina of Novar Gardens and went down 13 v 8 in a very hard fought game. The Final was to be contested by Garry and Selina and Jean Luc and Ryan, also of Novar Gardens.

The afternoon’s competition was impacted by a large tree crashing down in the nearby Tree Climb and, by some miracle, no one was injured. There were at least three small children who had to be retrieved from the platform which surrounded the tree, in very close proximity to where the break occurred. The tree could have ‘kicked back’, or broken in a different place, or fallen to the ground (none of which occurred) and there would certainly have been a very different outcome.

Well done to Club De Petanque D’Adelaide for a wonderful, well organised and hospitable day.

A GOOD DAY FOR PROSPECT AT EASTERN SUBURBS’ “DINGO CUP” Sunday 21 November

The Dingo Memorial Cup is held by the Eastern Suburbs Petanque Club in memory of their past member, Graham Clarke. Luckily, the rain that was forecast earlier in the week never eventuated and players enjoyed blue skies, sunshine and a balmy 22 degrees.

Prospect had a good share of the prizes, with our Gavin Scott and Van Nguyen taking out the Principale from Marcus and Nicholas. Prospect’s Allan Sanderson and Melissa Scott were runners up to Alexi and Craig Stewart in the Consolante A final and yet more Prospect players, Glenis and Stan Wilson, were runners up in the Consolante B final to Alain & JP.

A great day for all and Prospect extends its thanks to ESP for their hospitality and hard work which ensured a successful competition.

A VERY SUCCESSFUL DAY FOR PROSPECT PETANQUE AT CHATEAU DORRIEN

Prospect had a very successful day at Chateau Dorrien last Sunday, 14 March, with winners in all sections of the competition. Melissa and Van were Runners Up in the Principale section after a tight match and were beaten at the post 11/13. The Consulant final was an all Prospect match, with Marty and David taking first prize from Michael and Janet. Also, Gavin and John were Runners Up in the Convivial.

It was a big day, with 26 teams competing, and our thanks go to Gawler Club for conducting the event and Chateau Dorrien for their hospitality and generosity. Our prize winners came home with some very good wines and lots of medals!

Trebes Trophy

Last Sunday 10 September,  Allan Sanderson with Brett Williams and Tony Stojsic (From the Adelaide Club) won the Trebes Trophy in the City at FAB Petanque Club.

Trebes Cup 2017 winners

Trebes Cup 2017

The Trebes Trophy is a unique event where the Men and Women play separate qualifying games, five of (5) including semi final and  grand finals for Men and Women, then the winning Men’s and Women’s teams play off for the Trophy, some wine and a few $s cash.

After a tough battle the Women’s team were leading 12/9 needing just one more point for victory, but the Men’s team prevailed with a bit of luck and skill in playing the right shots were able to take the victory, and make it two years in a row at winning this prestigious event on the SAPL Calendar.

Special thanks to Terry and The FAB team for a well organised day.
